Where to Park and How to get there

BE AWARE! Once you enter the lakes area you will be in a traffic control zone. Expect delays and please follow the Marshall's instructions at all times.

Participants, supporters and spectators parking available at the Facilities Island (ENTRY ONLY) until 10.45am (NO VEHICLES WILL BE ABLE TO EXIT UNTIL AFTER 10.45am.) Those wishing to park after 10.45am should use the John Wollaston Anglican Community School oval on centre road. Please make a gold coin payment to the school parking marshalls. There will be no restrictions on entry/exit times for those parking at the School Oval but it will close around 2pm.

Parking at the facilities island, enter via Henley Drive off Lake Road

Access Routes

  • Travelling south on Tonkin Highway use the Corfield St. exit onto Seaforth Avenue to Lake Road or to Railway Avenue to Centre Rd.
  • Travelling north on Tonkin Highway exit onto Armadale Road to Lake Road or Railway Avenue to Centre Road.NB THE TONKIN / CHAMPION DRIVE EXIT WILL BE CLOSED FOR THE DURATION OF THE EVENT
  • On Albany Highway access Railway Avenue via Denny Avenue in Kelmscott and proceed to Centre or Lake Road.

Access to the Regatta Centre after 10.45am. is strictly for Pedestrians and Cyclists ONLY and only via Henley Drive (Please follow Marshall's instructions)

FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL PLEASE KEEP IN SINGLE FILE AND ALWAYS OBEY ANY INSTRUCTIONS FROM EVENT MARSHALLS, OFFICIALS AND TRAFFIC CONTROL SO THAT YOU CAN AVOID ANY CONTACT WITH THE CYCLING EVENTS THAT WILL BE UNDERWAY.

LOCAL AUTHORITIES WILL BE ENFORCING A STRICT NO PARKING POLICY ON ALL ROADSIDES AND VERGES IN THE LOCALITY OF THIS EVENT

Entry and Reserved Parking for VIP Guests and Officials on the Facilities Island with entry BEFORE 10.45am

Full Road Closures in effect from 7.15am to 12noon

  • Champion Drive........from Tonkin Highway to Lake Rd.
  • Lake View Terrace.....from Lake Rd. to Regatta Centre entry

Restricted Traffic Flows in effect from 7.15am to 12 noon

  • Lake Road........Northbound - single lane 60kph limit from Poad Street to Lakeview Terrace
  • Lake Road........Southbound - Two way traffic one lane south,one north from Champion Drive to Poad Street

Allow for Delays

  • Where possible we advise vehicles to avoid using Lake Road for the duration of the event.
  • For Tonkin Highway access/exit use the Corfield Street or Ranford Road connections

Public Transport

  • Train service to Kelmscott Station approximately 2 km to the Lakes via Cammillo Dr.
THE GOLDEN SPOKES IS AN ALCOHOL and SMOKE FREE EVENT

General Information

  • All single lane roads along the route will be fully closed to all apart from participants
  • Where the course uses dual carriageway roads, the left hand lane will be closed off for event use only, all other traffic will operate at a reduced speed limit of 60km per hour
  • The Open Races will proceed uninterrupted, as will the Charity Rides, but stragglers may be asked to stop at major intersections if it is deemed absolutely necessary by Traffic Control
  • Instructions from Traffic Controllers and Marshals must be followed to ensure the safety of all concerned

Road Closures and Traffic Control will end at 12 noon. Riders still on the course after this time must obey normal road rules

Participants Raffle The Charity Rides are just that, RIDES, not races, so we cannot give placement prizes but all events on the Closed Road Circuit will be individually timed thanks to the supply of Timing Wheel Tags by Cycling WA. We will also be giving all of the Charity Ride entrants a chance of winning something by giving FREE RAFFLE ENTRIES for some great prizes (but you must stay for the draw at around 12 noon to qualify!)

Timing Timing for the Open and Support Races and The Teams Challenge are courtesy of Cycling WA .Timing Wheel Tags must be returned at the end of the event to Cycling WA or you will be charged the $20 replacement cost.

Fundraising Should you be able to help us to raise funds it would be greatly appreciated and we offer ONE free entry for every $100 raised ($50 for School Students). This applies to all event categories and payment should be made directly to Casm before the day or to the CASM desk at the Facilities Island on the day and your entry fee will be refunded. Contact CASM on 9356 2814 for details to make On-line fundraising or donation payments. The money raised from entry fees as well any donations raised go to the charity.We cover the major part of the costs associated with the Golden Spokes with the help of our Sponsors so that the monies raised by our participants and entry fees (apart from insurance and electronic timing charges) can go to help CASM continue its much needed support of people less fortunate than ourselves.

Safety and Course information

  • The whole course has been designed with safety as the major factor.
  • For the Charity Rides it offers pleasant surroundings with no hard climbs or descents and the added safety of a fully closed roads
  • For the Open Racers it offers a flat fast flowing route without the dangers of other traffic and inexperienced cyclists and incorporates several challenging corners and a flat finishing straight
  • The whole course, including the Lakes Events Track, will be swept and checked prior to the start
  • Riders will be preceded by a lead vehicle with a sweep car and mechanical help at the back of the field
  • All officials, Marshals and Traffic Controllers will be able to contact a central control so help will never be far away
  • Security Guards will be on duty at the Lakes area
  • Full professional Traffic Control will be contracted for the day
  • First Aid and Facilities There will be a first Aid post on the facilities island at the lakes as well as food, water, sunscreen, etc.
  • In addition to our volunteer marshalls the SES volunteers will be on duty in radio contact with their SES vehicle fully equipped with 1st. Aid kit and the St Johns Ambulance on site at the lakes Facilities Island
  • There will be a drink station along the route
  • Toilet facilities will be available at the Regatta Centre
  • Drinks and refreshments will be available at the Facilities Island throughout the day
  • Event Rules Although on a closed road circuit, entrants must remember that normal road rules and etiquette still apply
  • Helmets must be worn whilst riding your bike, NO HELMET, NO RIDE!
  • Take care when overtaking slower riders
  • Keep well over to the left half of the track, watch out and give room for faster riders
  • Ensure you have plenty of water, use the drink station
  • Carry a basic repair kit and pump with you
