Join in the Golden Spokes – a cycling event with a difference Have a fun day out! Relax in the beautiful surroundings of Champion Lakes. Bring your family and friends. Take up the challenge of the Open Race or join in one of the Charity Rides planned for the day and help us make a difference.
The Golden Spokes is a charity event organised in conjunction with Cycling WA by Citizen Advocacy South Metropolitan, a charitable community organisation helping people with a disability.
For the first time in WA, the Open Race component of a Charity Ride Event has been sanctioned by the state's governing body Cycling WA as part of the State Road Racing Titles.
The Golden Spokes is aimed to be both a genuine sporting event and a fun day for all, designed to promote a healthy lifestyle, family participation and community involvement.
2008 will be the inaugural year of what is intended to be an annual event.
Participants of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to take part in this unique event.
- Ride in safety on a closed road circuit centered around the Champion Lakes venue.
- Join in the Charity Ride (32km.) Try out the same circuit as WA's top cyclists.
- All Participants in the Charity Rides will receive a Free Entry into a special Entrants Raffle to be drawn at presentations around 11.30am.You could win a folding "Giant" bike from Sponsor the Public Transport Authority worth $850 or a great TBE road bike from The Bicycle Entrepreneur valued at $1,200
- If you are fit enough take up the challenge of the Open Race and compete with the states best around the circuit (for this event you should be able to complete the 76km.within 2 hours 30 min ) Non Members of Cycling WA should obtain their temporary membership and insurance for the day from race officials on the day at the assembly area ($18) to enter–go to Registration
- As a sanctioned event competitors in the Open Race will compete in the normal categories for placement trophies and prizemoney, in addition a perpetual trophy will be presented to the overall winner by our event patron Hon.Alannah MacTiernan MLA.at the official presentations
- For those wanting a casual ride take the Short course/ Family Ride for 1 or 2 laps around the lake on the 5 km. Events Track.
- Stay around for the Handicap Start Challenge and the official presentations to round off the day

The first 1,000 entries received for the Open Race / 32km Charity Ride will receive a solid pewter commemorative medallion from one of our Gold Sponsors, Bladon WA. We will also be giving a voucher for a free neuromuscular assessment to 300 entrants across all events courtesy of Gold Sponsor Perth Integrated Health Clinic
So choose the category that suits you best,or just simply come and watch the action and enjoy other activities planned for the day.
- Come early, have a coffee and roll, watch the colour and excitement of the Open Race (Race starts 7.30 am : food vendors will be on site from 8am.)
- After presentations and raffle draws, relax, have lunch.
- Swim in the clear waters of the Champion Lakes designated swimming zone.
- Have a look at the Historic Bicycle Association of WA display, even take a ride on some of their vintage bikes.(sorry but not the Penny-farthing)
- Talk and meet with the club members from the Dragon Boats, canoes and kayaks as they demonstrate their sport.
- Watch the Handicap Start Challenge Race between, kayaks, dragon boats, canoes, wheelchair racers, rowers, in line skaters and bikes (including Penny Farthings) sheduled start 11.15 am.
- Join us for a family day of healthy activity and fun
